| Wine: 2005 Picchetti Winery Santa Clara County Dorcich Vineyard Merlot | ||
| Disclaimer: Merlot's are not my favorite varietal and I rarely drink them. So with that said, this wine was excellent. As you know there is a term for "Big" Zins, I would categorize this as a "Big" Merlot. The bouquet was powerful with raspberries and pepper. The wine coated the mouth (like a Petite Sirah) with pleasant berry flavors and finished with pepper. The tannins were firm and I actually bought a couple of bottles, which doubled my Merlot wine cellar collection. (tasted Apr'08) | ||

| Winery: Stony Brook Vineyards | ||
| This winery is my family's home, business and passion. The farm is situated in the southernmost corner of the Franschhoek Valley (South Africa), with 14 hectares under vines and a full range of wines on offer. The wines are of limited release and exceptional quality. Tastings are given on the farm, either on the veranda, or in a newly-completed tasting area at the front of the family home. The McNaughts welcome wine-lovers to come and enjoy the view and chat about wine in a relaxed atmosphere. (visited most of my former years) | ||
